SCALE 3
GASTRIC HYPOACIDITY

CONTENTS

EXPLANATION

Gastric hypoacidity was sometimes noted by Edgar Cayce, particularly in the 118 readings which prescribed Acigest.  Acigest was a product available during Cayce's era.  The primary active ingredient in Acigest was hydrochloric acid.

Naturally, inadequate acidity in the stomach will often lead to indigestion and nausea.  Poor digestion will make assimilation of nutrients difficult decreasing vitality resulting in general weakness and lack of energy.  A less recognized symptom of gastric hypoacidity is headache.  Edgar Cayce often noted that many headaches come from dysfunction in the stomach and intestinal tract.

THERAPEUTIC OPTIONS

DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS

Although Acigest is no longer commercially available, numerous other digestive aids containing hydrochloric acid are easily available at most health food stores.  The Heritage store sells a product called Duogest which is intended to be a substitute for Acigest.

Another product called Calcios was often prescribed in combination with Acigest.  A product called Calcios (not the original formulation) is sold by the Heritage Store.

MANUAL THERAPY

Osteopathic treatment was recommended in 40 readings in which Acigest was prescribed.  Basically, the recommendations were for gentle, relaxing treatments with special emphasis on the cervical and upper thoracic nerve centers which provide nerve impulse to the stomach.

DIET

A balanced diet with plenty of vegetables was recommended in many readings involving gastric hypoacidity.  For individuals suffering from general debilitation resulting from poor digestion and assimilation, body building foods which increase vitality were sometimes suggested (e.g., beef juice, organ meats, eggnog, malts, etc.).
